Character Spotlight: Monica

Monica is Trent's wife

The character Monica is introduced to the reader as Trent’s former girlfriend; they dated before Cora. He rekindled their relationship after Cora makes it clear she does not want to pursue a relationship with him.

  Monica agreed to meet with Cora, the mother of Trent’s daughter, at a diner. She agreed to meet with Cora after she marry Trent, unsure of what to expect at the meeting between the two women.

 Cora presents her lists of expectations and concerns while their daughter is in the care of Trent. Monica listens to Cora concerns and agrees. Monica responded by stating to Cora “I am not a monster, and I am here to support Trent and Ellis relationship.”  After Cora presents her lists of expectations, she agrees to break bread with Cora. 

Monica seems to be a patient, calm person, some readers may view her as a push over. As the story unfolds, her response to Trent’s philandering, she exhibits different side. Her response shows she has valor of inner strength and self-respect, which inspires readers to cheer for her. Monica recognizes the need to refocus on her role as a wife and mother. 

Monica values motherhood and family. She embraces her role as a wife with the belief to be a supporter of her husband. She is a woman challenged by essence of what loyalty means, self-value, and family while demonstrating inner strength to stand up for herself when necessary.
