Cora is the mother of Ellis 

Cora character is a loving mother, witty, supportive, speaks her mind, stubborn, and supporter of women.

 Cora is one of the 1st characters, which is introduced to the reader, we first see her challenging the boundaries which are created by her mate Adam. Cora challenges the idea of remaining with Trent because she is pregnant. Cora demonstrates a willingness to challenge social expectations. During a time when woman expected marriage with an announcement of pregnancy. Cora desires a mate who has vision and a relationship which is built on love and respect. 

As a mother she feels vested in preparing her daughter for womanhood by having an honest conversation about relationships and self-worth. She encourages her daughter to be financially independent which believing financial freedom provides women the option to leave toxic relationships. 

Cora treasures family time, gatherings, she enjoys cooking and celebration of family. Her home is welcoming to family and friends.  Cora is a great cook, to the point when her daughter leaves for college and meets a classmate who asks Ellis where she can find home cooked food. Ellis did not hesitate to take her friend to have lunch at home to obtain Cora’s curry chicken.

Cora sets standards regarding her children. When Trent married Monica, Cora allows her daughter to have overnight visit at their home. She requested a meeting with Monica to discuss expectations regarding her daughter’s wellbeing during those visits.  After Cora ended the conversation, she harbored no grudges, Cora asked Monica to share a meal together. Cora values motherhood, friendship, and sisterhood, with nurturing bonds which build trust. Cora has friendship which she nourished from childhood, Camila. The center of Cora is love, unwavering support of family, and independence.
